There Are Several Reasons to Get a Dental Crown

Fix Troubled Teeth

Dental crowns may be necessary when your teeth have been worn down or are already broken. We may also recommend a crown when you have misshapen or discolored teeth. If you have significant tooth decay or your teeth are prone to breaking or cracking, a dental crown can strengthen the tooth structure and restore the function and esthetics of your smile.

Key Benefits of Dental Crowns

Dental crowns offer a number of benefits to tooth restoration patients and can be attached to a dental bridge or implant. We can place a crown to enhance the appearance of your smile, strengthen the tooth structure, and restore the tooth to its natural shape and size. Dental crowns can also be placed to hold a filling in place and may be needed to cover up a tooth that has had a root canal.

Receiving a Crown is a Simple Procedure

The Dental Crown Procedure

Placing a dental crown typically involves two office visits because we will need to take an impression of the teeth before having the crown fabricated at the lab. On your first visit, Dr. Shilpa Koneru will take x-rays to make sure the root of the tooth and surrounding bone are healthy enough to support a crown. The tooth will need to be reshaped before impressions are made. The second visit will involve cementing the crown in place and checking the bite.

Bridge Gaps in Your Smile with a Restoration Procedure

Benefits of a Bridge

A bridge will restore the esthetics of your smile and can also improve the functionality of your mouth so that you can speak and eat properly. Dr. Shilpa Koneru may recommend a bridge in order to prevent the cheeks from sinking in areas where the teeth are missing. A bridge can also restore the bite by replacing missing teeth. If you are self-conscious about a missing tooth or have big gaps in your smile, a bridge can help to enhance the look of your smile.

The Bridge Procedure

The bridge procedure is typically performed in three office visits. On the first visit, we will prepare the teeth on either side of the area with missing teeth for a crown. This typically involves removing some of the enamel to make room for the crown material. After the tooth has been reshaped and prepared, we will make an impression to fabricate a custom bridge. We will check the health of your gums on the second visit and then place the bridge on your last visit.

Dental Bridges to Replace Missing Teeth

Dental bridges may be an alternative to dental implants for patients with missing teeth. We can determine whether you will be a good candidate for a bridge or other tooth replacement procedures during your consultation. We can effectively restore your smile and help you maintain the shape of your face with a simple bridge procedure.
